never too late

When my husband died in 1997 after a very long period of ill health my life came to a complete stop, After looking after him 24 hours a day for so long,
I woke up one morning and realised that I had 24 hours ahead of me with no one to look after and nothing to do and nowhere to go,
Looking after an invalid doesn’t leave you with much time to keep up with friends
I realised that the only people I could communicate with were the staff at the hospital. Who’s kindness and care could not be surpassed.
So I decided to change all that. I would make a new life for myself as I still had a brain and an enquiring mind I wanted to make up for all the things I had missed such as Adult Education which I had been wanting to do for a long time.
First and foremost I decided to travel to all the places that my husband and myself had planned to visit but had to be cancelled owing to my husbands health worsening .
I succeeded in doing this. The first time I set off it was with a great deal of trepidation as I had never travelled so far on my own. I went to Lourdes first and the Good Lord gave me the courage I needed, and I came back full of hope, and looking forward to the rest of my life and I decided to make use of whatever time I had left to live. I visited the Holy Land, Egypt which I visited three times. And most of Eurpe. Then came the day when I knew I was ready to start some form of learning . Everybody seemed to be talking about how much you can learn from these Computers, So off I went to the Age Concern office. I was introduced to computing by Geoff one of the tutors there,, and I was hooked . I learned how to type make a menu list, how to scan and print timetables.
After eight lessons from Geoff, I continued my studies at The Meadows where I met Kevin and Jane who taught me new meanings to a lot of words such as dragging format enter toolbar etc.
Also they taught me how t make photographs larger or smaller.
How to make old photographs look like new .
How to serf the net,
“ SO WHAT” I can hear you say.
Well , this is why it is so amazing. When I started all this learning I was 80 years old. I am now approaching my 85th birthday next month September 19th 2007.

It was the beginning of Kittys learning journey - living proof that its never too late!

So you see you are never too old to –learn.
I have proved it With tutors like Geoff, Kevin, and Jane you are certain to succeed, and you will discover a wonderful new world in a computer, Worlds you never knew existed , I promise you.

  • MY FATHER

MY FATHER DIDN'T VALUE THINGS AS SUCH. WHAT HE VALUED APART FROM THE FAMILY WAS HIS GREENHOUSE.
HE WAS A GARDENER BY TRADE, AND HAD A LOVE OF NATURE WHICH NEVER LEFT HIM IN ALL HIS 93 YEARS.
HE HAD THE PROVERBIAL GREEN FINGERS.IT WAS ONLY A SMALL GREENHOUSE, BUT IT WAS AMAZING HOW MANY VARIETIES OF PLANTS AND FLOWERS IT COULD ACCOMMODATE.HE HAD BUILT IT HIMSELF MANTY YEARS AGO, AND WHENEVER WE MOVED HOUSE IT WAS DISMANTLED TAKEN WITH US, AND PUT TOGETHER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
WHEN WE ARRIVED AT OUR NEW LOCATION.WHEN HE WASN'T AT HIS DAY JOB IN ONE OF NEWCASTLES PARKS HE COULD ALWAYS BE FOUND IN HIS GREENHOUSE.

NOW THIS LITTLE GREENHOUSE HAD MANY PERFUMES, AND TASTES. I WONT CALL THEM SMELLS OR SCENTS. THEY WERE DEFINITELY PERFUMES WHICH CAN ONLY BE PRODUCED BY NATURE. AT ONE END OF THE GREENHOUSE WERE THE TRADITIONAL SALAD INGREDIENTS WHICH COULD BE GATHERED WHENEVER WE NEEDED THEM. THE TASTE WAS DELICIOUS.
THERE WERE ALWAYS FLOWERS AT THE OTHER END. THE PERFUME COMING FROM THESE FLOWERS IS NOT EASY TO DESCRIBE. HEADY TO SAY THE LEAST,AND THOSE PERFUMES WERE TRANSFERRED TO THE REST OF THE GARDEN AS THE FLOWERS WERE PLANTED OUT IN THEIR RESPECTIVE SEASONS.

TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING TO THE PERFUME OF WALLFLOWERS AND VIRGINIA STOCK WAFTING UP FROM THE GARDEN HAS TO BE EXPERIENCED. IT COULD NEVER BE ADEGUATELY DESCRIBED, AND ALL THIS BEAUTY CAME FROM THAT GREENHOUSE , A PAIR OF GENTLE HANDS AND A FEW PACKETS OF SEEDS FROM WOOLWORTHS.

MY FATHER WAS A QUIET MAN WITH A QUIET SENSE OF HUMOUR,. A GOOD CHRISTIAN. A MAN TO WHOM MY BROTHERS AND MYSELF COULD TALK TO ABOUT ANYTHING, AND RECIEVE SOUND ADVICE. THAT GOOD ADVICE HAS SERVED US WELL OVER THE YEARS, AND STILL DOES.
